Malinska
Sensa is an old custom in Malinska, held on the 40th day after Easter, commemorating Christ’s ascension into heaven. This tradition is linked to the fact that big part of this area’s population were dairy farmers.
The central event is held on the day of Assumption with a cheese festival on the pier in Malinska, accompanied by the traditional race “Teć za sir” (“To run for cheese”) and rich gastronomic offer of dishes made of homemade sheep cheese. After the evening mass in parish church of Dubašnica, where cheese is brought to the altar, the running competition of the young men is held, while people gathered along the road cheer for their favorites. After the race, the feast of cheese and traditional delicacies is held, with traditional songs and dance to the sound of sopele.
