Baška tablet

Be sure to visit one of the most significant monuments of Croatian culture, the Baška tablet. It was written in Glagolitic script (Slavic alphabet) around 1100, documenting a donation by Croatian King Zvonimir (1075-1089) to the Church of St. Lucy in Jurandvoru, where the Baška tablet was first found inserted within the church pavement.

The tablet has a special historical significance as it represents the first mention of the ruler’s name in the national language. Due to its exceptional value, the original tablet is kept at the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Zagreb, while a copy remains at the Church of St. Lucy.
