Kosljun Island

The islet of Kosljun was inhabited in ancient times when a fortified mansion was built on it. This is how it gets its name: castellum – Kosljun. The islet area is 68,500 square meters. There are about 400 plant species on it. The monastery library is the oldest and largest on the island of Krk, with a collection of about 30,000 library units, up to 100 incunabula.

Throughout its past, the Kosljun monastery has had various uses. From 1894 to 1927 there was a college with a lower grammar school. It was the first gymnasium with Croatian teaching language in Istria and Kvarner. Today Kosljun is a favorite place to visit. The journey takes only 20 min. by boat from Punat.
